Romanian cuisine traditionally includes lot of meat-based dishes, especially pork meat.
So finding vegetarian or vegan restaurantants in Bucharest can seem like a challenge at first but don’t worry, because we have more than 3000 restaurants in Bucharest and there are plenty of options to choose from.
In this article we’ve outlined out favorite vegetarian dishes and where to find them.
For starters make sure to try our cold appetizers meant to be eaten with bread. The most famous ones are Salata de Vinete ( eggplant spread ), Zacusca ( vegetable spread ) and fasole batuta ( mashed beans spread ).
If you are looking to try our local soups make sure to try Ciorba de legume ( vegetable sour soup ), Ciorba de Fasole ( bean soup that in some restaurants they serve it just with meat so make sure to ask before ) or Ciorba de cartofi ( Potato soup ).
For the main course most of the restaurant will serve different options for salads with no meat but if you are looking for a hot meal try polenta, locally known as mamaliga that you can pair it with cheese and sour cream – this can be either boiled or baked.
For stew lovers we have a really good mushroom stew and potato stew.
